Bird Management

Bird-Proofing Your Property

Certain environments attract birds such as pigeons, sparrows, sea-gulls or geese. They can damage your facility, provide an unclean environment, upset your customers and even create a health threat.

They carry diseases and can cause significant damage to property while trying to gain entry to places where they shouldn’t. Pigeon droppings are corrosive enough to eat past a coating of wax or paint sealant, leaving expensive damage to parked cars.

Birds can roost on your roof, inside your signs, in your parking garages, building nests, breeding and defecating in, on and around your building.

Don’t let these uncontrolled birds threaten your property and harass your employees.

Birds, including pigeons, sparrows and sea-gulls, can make a home either on or even inside your building if the conditions are ideal and they can gain access. Once they’ve infiltrated your property and start nesting, they can become a nuisance, and health and safety hazard for your employees, customers and merchandise.

Birds often gain access to and live inside your building, posing an obvious health concern. They may roost on your roof, inside your signs, in your parking garages, building nests, breeding and defecating in, on and around your building.

Pigeon droppings contain the organisms responsible for diseases such as Ornithosis, Encephalitis, Cryptococcosis, Toxoplasmosis and Salmonella, to name a few. Buildings which have large pigeon populations constitute health hazards for the occupants of those buildings.

There are a wide variety of solutions depending on the species of bird, the time of year and the details of your property or building. Your Abell Pest Control Bird Management team can provide a custom solution for you.

Abell’s bird exclusion products are humane and effective for all infestation levels and bird species. Our bird control products include Bird-Flite Spikes, Bird Coil, Gridwire, StealthNet and Bird-Shock Flex-Track.

Abell Pest Control also provides geese hazing services. Geese hazing is the practice of regularly using trained dogs, or other deterrents such as lasers or fireworks, to relocate Canadian geese.

Abell Pest Control utilizes dogs for this. After a period of regular interruption, noise, annoyance and perceived threats, the geese will finally choose to relocate.

Geese hazing is a method often used for large park areas, golf courses, airports and other urban areas. It requires multiple visits over a long period of time to be effective but will convince the geese to relocate and not come back.

When geese nest, they can create quite a mess with droppings. In addition, nesting materials and other debris are unsightly and can cause real damage, especially to rooftop air conditioning units, a favourite nesting spot for pigeons.

Nesting birds can become an ongoing clean-up and power washing expense for your business. These birds will return to a successful breeding site and their young will return to their birth place if they are allowed to nest without interruption.

The idea behind egg collecting and nest removal is to permanently remove the birds from your property. By collecting the eggs, we create an atmosphere where the birds are motivated to move to a less disruptive location—away from your site. They become unwilling to return to your property for another breeding season.
