Driving should be relaxing, not a moment of panic because a spider suddenly drops from the ceiling. While it might seem strange, spiders love cars. And they usually wait to show up right when you're pulling out of the driveway.
Why Do Spiders Like Cars?
To a spider, your car is full of cozy hiding spots, dark corners, small crevices, and sometimes even leftover food. If a door or window is left open, they’ll gladly crawl inside. But even if your car is sealed tight, spiders can sneak in through tiny gaps or even through air vents.
And let’s face it, no matter how harmless the spider may be, seeing one while you're driving can be a major distraction (or a full-blown panic moment).
How to Keep Them Out
Here are a few simple ways to keep your car spider-free:
Use Lemon Oil
Spiders hate citrus. Wipe down your dashboard, air vents, and doors with lemon-scented cleaner or lemon essential oil. It smells great to people, but spiders can’t stand it.
Try Peppermint
Peppermint oil is another spider repellent that also happens to leave your car smelling fresh. Just dab a bit onto cotton balls or mix with water and spray lightly around the interior. A little goes a long way.
Keep It Closed
Always shut your windows, doors, and sunroof when your car is parked. It only takes a small opening for a spider to sneak in.
Keep It Clean
Crumbs, trash, and clutter can attract insects, aka spider snacks. No food, no bugs, no spiders.
Check Before You Drive
Before hitting the road, do a glance around your mirrors, vents, and under your visor. Better safe than sorry.
