Rodents aren’t picky. They want somewhere warm, dark, and protected, and a parked car gives them exactly that. Engines hold heat, garages keep out wind and predators, and the insulation under the hood or inside seats makes great nesting material. Cars that aren’t being driven don’t get disturbed, which gives rodents more time to move in and settle comfortably.
Once rodents get inside your car, they can do real damage. Chewed wires and hoses can lead to warning lights, electrical issues, or cars that won’t start at all. Nesting materials can block airflow or create fire risks. Inside the car, droppings, odours, and torn upholstery can be difficult to repair or replace.
If a car is going to sit through the winter, checking on it regularly can save you from costly repairs, and unpleasant surprises when you’re ready to drive again.
